Just Like You [Transgender Voices on Being a Human]

  • Barking Legs Theater 1307 Dodds Avenue Chattanooga, TN, 37404 United States (map)

Seed Theatre presents Just Like You: Trans Voices on Being Human; a powerful evening of storytelling that brings transgender voices to the stage in an honest, intimate, and deeply human performance. Developed in collaboration with transgender artists from Hamilton County and surrounding communities, this live performance features personal monologues that explore the everyday realities of life—family, work, relationships, humor, joy, struggle, and resilience. Rather than telling stories about transgender people, Just Like You creates space for trans individuals to tell their own stories directly to the audience. Through these authentic voices, the performance invites audiences to connect with experiences that are deeply personal yet universally human.

At the heart of this project is a belief that stories about marginalized communities should be told by the people who live them whenever possible. Too often, narratives about trans people are shaped by those outside the community simply because they are more visible, convenient, or accessible to producers. This project intentionally centers trans voices themselves—honoring lived experience, agency, and authenticity by ensuring the people most impacted by these stories are the ones sharing them.

Guided by Seed Theatre’s Creative Director, a published playwright, participating artists have developed their narratives through a supportive creative process designed to honor each storyteller’s voice. The result is an evening of moving, thoughtful, and sometimes humorous reflections that celebrate identity, dignity, and community.

Just Like You is more than a performance—it is an opportunity to listen, learn, and connect through the shared power of storytelling.
